Varietal Composition: Mavrodaphne 100%
Vineyards: From the Zacharias family slopping vineyards at Nemea – at the location of Leontio village called “Selkia”
Altitude: 400m. from sea level
Winemaking: Pre-fermentation maceration (cold soak) for 3 days and then red classic winemaking method, with a 15-20 days skin contact in 22 – 25o C. Aging for one year in new French oak barriques and then for seven months in the bottle.
Characteristics: Dry vinification of Mavrodaphne grape, a variety that is well known for sweet (fortified) wines. The founder of the company Elias Zacharias having a strong belief on the great potential of this grape variety decided to create the unique vineyards of Mavrodaphne at a location of Leontio village called “Selkia”, covering an area of 10 acres back in 2006. LEXIS MAVRODAPHNE has a deep ruby red color, with an excellent bouquet with hints of mature red fruits, herbs, vanilla, coffee, and spices. It is medium bodied, very well structured with soft tannins and a condensed spicy aftertaste.
Aging potential: LEXIS MAVRODAPHNE could further age in the bottle for 8 – 10 years.
Food pairing: Lamp, goat’s meat and game with dark and mushroom sauces
Serving Temperature: 170 – 180 C
